First, we need to break it down into three part (day) – (month) – (year)

Then, we add the digits in each of the parts. For example, for the day (12), there are two digits (1 and 2). We add them together (1+2), giving us a 3.

Do the same thing to the month and year, and you will have (3 for day) – (7 for month) – (23 for year).

Now, the problem is that the year usually will add up to something larger than 9, which is a problem. The reason is the number we are looking for in each part is a single-digit number.
